Cornerstone Baptist Church was founded as a result of two historic Louisville churches, Beechmont Baptist Church (est. 1911) and Parkwood Baptist Church (est. 1944), coming together to plant a new work that would be more equipped for ministry and better reach the south end of Louisville for Jesus Christ while preserving the legacy of both churches.
The work started with years of prayers from both churches to grow spiritually and numerically and culminated with Parkwood and Beechmont both voting to combine as a new church. As part of this vote, both congregations elected representatives to form the Replant Team, along with the staff and pastors of both churches. The Replant Team worked together in representing the interests of both congregations in doing much of the administrative work involved in the replanting process.
The name of the new church was chosen after prayerful deliberation of the Replant Team on which of the many names submitted by the congregants to present to the churches for approval. The Replant and both congregations heartily approved the name of Cornerstone Baptist Church. The facilities of Beechmont Baptist Church were chosen to be the home of Cornerstone because of its more visible location, walkable community, and larger facilities.
The first worship service with both congregations together was Christmas Eve of 2023 and the church officially launched in March of 2024. We are so glad to be part of what God has done and is doing at Cornerstone and we pray you will join us.
